I, Juan de Pareja
I, Juan de Pareja by Elizabeth Borton de Trevino is the story of a young slave who, being the only survivor after his Masters household is overcome by the plague, is sent to live and work for Don Diego. Juan's new master is a painter, and after years of working for and with the master, Juan finds that he desperately wants to paint. But the law forbids that slaves be learned in any trade at all. But Juan experiments behind the masters back until his conscience bothers him to the point of confession. What will happen? I'm not going to tell you because you need to read this book and find out yourself!
